Live Yardbirds

Updated: Apr 1, 2019

If you weren't influenced by this band, you don't have a pulse

"On this night, they introduced New York and the world to their new guitar player who was regularly referred to as the “good-credentials-but-who-is-he-anyway” lead guitarist. His name? Jimmy Page."

October 16th, Sunday. Okay so, yeah, it’s the birthday version of “Live Vinyl Lovefest” and because it’s such a “special” occasion, I’m going to share a real gem with you. This is an extremely rare recording of The Yardbirds and at a very important time in musical history. This performance on March 30th at the Lower East Side’s Anderson Theater would be the last performance by The Yardbirds in New York City. It was the post Clapton / Beck era and a lot of turbulence surrounded the band and it was generally accepted that “the end was surely near” with the departure of such iconic band members at that stage of the game for the band. But the faithful showed up in spite of it all to hear them perform The Yardbirds incredibly progressive music. On this night, they introduced New York and the world to their new guitar player who was regularly referred to as the “good-credentials-but-who-is-he-anyway” lead guitarist. His name? Jimmy Page.

As one famous radio personality used to say “and now you know the REST of the story”

This is an incredible recording. The quality is ridiculously good. The energy in the room is incredible. The energy from the band is incredible. The performances are simply off the freakin chart incredible. One of my greatest acquisitions while searching for live recorded albums and one of my favorite live listens all time. This one is on the turntable a lot.

So, ya know, happy birthday to me!
