An epic moment in time at a legendary venue

October 11th, 2018 Welcome to your favorite Facebook posts of all time “Live Vinyl Lovefest” Today, we delve into the storied past as we take on Jim Morrison and and The Doors. This is an iconic show at the height of their glory and impact in 1968 recorded at the Hollywood Bowl. The Doors are such an interesting band for me and I think they are for many other people as well. i’ve found that generally speaking, people fall into one of two categories, “Doors fan” … or … “not a Doors fan”. I fall into the former I must say. And weirdly, the results of that survey tend to flip flop when you ask these same people about The Doors movie directed by Oliver Stone. Now, I actually liked the movie if you can keep it in the right context. I tend to believe it’s more a movie portraying the “legend’ of The Doors rather than a documentary of The Doors. A pretty “Hollywood” take on their career in my opinion. But all that said, i find them very intriguing musically and there was just something about The Doors that fit what was taking place in the late 60’s. It is totally time travel for me to sit and listen to their music. This show is a really good representation of that vibe and time. And as we can always count on with vinyl, we get a REALLY cool photo of the stage, amp line and microphone placements on the back cover. Solid gold right there. At any rate, always kind of cool to CRANK this one in the AM to get the day off to an edgy start. For some reason I always kind of channel my inner Jim Ladd in my head when I’m talking about The Doors. I vividly remember listening to Jim’s “Inner View” radio sessions talking to the members of the Doors. Headphones on, lights out. Laying on my bed as a teenager. Totally transported to another place while listening to it and in the end, it totally cemented me as a fan. This recording was engineered by the great Bruce Botnick and of course produced by the infamous Paul Rothschild. Not a lot can go wrong here IMO. But it is a live Doors show … so … actually anything could happen. :-)
